February has gone fast! Faith and Dakota are growing, their papers came, and they are both shedding.
I was very excited to receive Faith and Dakota’s registration applications. Faith is byFrench Flit and out of Drift Frost, while Dakota is by Diego Drift and out of Cisco Gal. When the papers came I was very surprised to find out that Dakota was 20 days older than Faith.
A couple of weeks ago I was finally able to work with both of the front and back hooves of each of the fillies. Our family’s farrier will come soon to trim their rear hooves. When I groom Faith and Dakota a lot of hair comes off. I’ve learned recently that the day length affect their shedding more than the weather.
With about a foot of snow, the fillies are enjoying being outside. Dakota likes to eat snow and Faith just looks at it. I have been able to leave the fillies tied in their stalls while I clean their stalls and do other chores.
Last Sunday I threw a saddle on Dunny and went for a ride. We still have snow but it was warmer. She usually has a "moment" of rearing and bucking the first time she's ridden in the spring and had a small one with me. I kept riding her and towards the end of our ride we were at the back end of our arena and she had another "moment", only this time she bucked down the arena to the front of our property. My mom was pretty impressed that I stayed on, and so was I! I'm hoping she got her "moments" out of her system for the next ride.
The days are getting longer and I'm anxious to get to riding every day and to working with the fillies. My May shows will be here before I know it!
