I really didn't do much with the fillies this week other than to turn them out daily and to keep an eye on Dakota's ankle. It still has a little swelling in it and we may need to have an x-ray taken to make sure there's not something in her ankle. She isn't sore, though, and that's good.
Tonight, before putting them in their stalls, my mom and I thought it would be a good idea to start their trailer loading training. Since they both like to eat so much we put some feed in a feed pan and sat it right inside the door, just out of reach. My mom took Faith, and she jumped into the trailer in less than a minute. She ate a few bites of feed and then my mom brought her out. Dakota was a little more hesitant to load. She took a step on to the mat and then slid a little. She went backwards and looked a bit surprised. Then she stuck her head back in, stepped up with both front feet and then hopped in with her back feet. It maybe took her two minutes to figure it out. I let her have some feed then I unloaded her.
The weather for this week is to be warm, so I hope to get some more time with the fillies outside and to start working on tying and picking up their hooves when I ask them to.
