For the past few days I have been working with Faith and Dakota everyday. When we got home on Sunday we put them both in one stall. On Monday I let them rest awhile while groomed them. I am getting them used to me touching them all over, especially their ears. I then tried separating them but it completely failed because neither would come out of the stall.
On Tuesday I worked on separating them. Dakota went out first but went right back in. Faith was happier to come out and to be led down the barn. I petted her and scratched her and put her in the other stall. Later that night my dad helped me put drag lines on them to help them give their head. They are settling in nicely in their new homes.
Today I attempted to let them have some exercise in a lot. I put Faith out first in a small dry lot. She was really calm in the lot. When it was time to put her up my mom and I couldn't catch her. It took us a long time to be able to catch her. She did not act scared but was not very willing to give up. She led really nicely back to her stall, but I think she's pretty tired. Dakota wouldn't come out of her stall, even for oats. I will work with them tomorrow on leading.
Dakota has a swollen ankle with a little infection. The vet will be out tomorrow morning to check on her to make sure she doesn't need antibiotics.
